Every Saturday, millions tune into her show which features women of color and is grounded in her steadfast insistence that our government is accountable to all people.  Joy knows the media can do a better job in telling a more inclusive story about this country, one in which all people are represented and seen. That’s why she chooses to elevate the voices of women of color, immigrants and other diverse perspectives on her weekly show AM Joy and her other platforms. She is a living reminder for us to be the change we wish to see in the world.

Joy says that what matters most in 2020 is dramatically increasing the number of people who are registered to vote and getting them to the polls in record numbers, especially people of color and poor people. She is hopeful that if we all do our part and vote, we can restore our democracy and end this dangerous period in American history. Her goal is to do everything she can, using every platform she has, to make it happen.

What is the song you will listen to on repeat in 2020?

“My Millennial daughter introduced me to Tank and the Bangas and now I'm obsessed.Their song "Butterflies" will be on repeat on my phone and in my brain for at least the next 12 months!”

What are you reading right now?

“The Impeachers by Brenda Wineapple and Moving Forward by Karine Jean Pierre.”

Who is your plus one?

“If we're talking about what I do as a public information conveyer who tries to represent for women of color, I have to have a plus-three (sorry to break the rules!) Karine Jean-Pierre (MoveOn), Tiffany Cross (The Beat DC) and Maria Teresa Kumar (Voto Latino) are phenomenal and articulating the needs and priorities of black and brown women, while actually working on the ground to make change happen.”
