Stacey Abrams
Atlanta, Georgia | Fair Fight
Stacey Abrams is the country’s top political strategist, knows how to build powerful multi-racial coalition and is someone who, many of us agree, would be great on a presidential ticket. Stacey is a tireless champion for American democracy who spends her every waking moment ensuring all people have access to participation in the political process to help shape our country’s future. After serving for over a decade in the Georgia House of Representatives, she made history in 2018 as the Democratic nominee for Governor of Georgia and the first Black woman to be nominated for governor by a political party in the United States.
As the founder and chair of Fair Fight, Stacey’s focus in 2020 is to ensure that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot. Fair Fight will be working to promote fair elections and fight voter suppression in Georgia and several key battleground states. They are also working on the 2020 census to ensure that marginalized communities are counted so they are reflected in our population and have equal representation in Congress.
What is the song you will listen to on repeat in 2020?
“I don’t know that I’ve heard it yet. I’ve got a great playlist but one of the best parts about a new year is that there are new words to be read and new music to hear.”
What are you reading right now?
“I’m reading three books. One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression is Destroying Our Democracy by Carol Anderson; The Rosewater Insurrection by Tade Thompson; and Reckless Love by Elizabeth Lowell.”
Who is your plus one?
“Ashley Robinson served as my Chief of Staff when I was Georgia’s House Democratic Leader. She did extraordinary work and today she is running the BLUE (Building Leaders and Uplifting the Electorate) Institute, which trains young people of color to become political leaders in their own right. I’m very proud of what she is doing.”
