STATEMENT: She the People on Biden Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to SCOTUS

SAN FRANCISCOShe the People Founder and President Aimee Allison released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States:

“This is an incredible moment for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, for President Biden, and for our country. At a time when this nation continues to fight the battles of voting rights, abortion rights and others we thought were already won, Judge Jackson brings exceptional credentials, unimpeachable character, and an unwavering dedication to equal justice under the law to the nation’s highest court. Her lived experience as a Black woman and a public defender qualify her to serve the American people honorably.

“Judge Jackson is an outstanding nominee to the Supreme Court. Throughout her exceptional career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to upholding the law and her case history demonstrates her thoughtful consideration of the ways in which decisions from the bench affect individual lives. In her appointment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Judge Jackson received bipartisan support, and was acknowledged for her impeccable character, merits, and accomplishments by members of both parties. We expect no less in the upcoming Senate confirmation process and call for timely and fair committee hearings and a swift confirmation. She the People will activate our broad multiracial network of women towards this goal.

“This is a tremendous moment not only for Black women but for all women of color and all Americans. We applaud President Biden for fulfilling this campaign promise to his voters and we are so proud of Judge Jackson. We congratulate her on this accomplishment, and we will continue to stand behind and support her as she becomes America’s first Black woman on our Supreme Court.”
