STATEMENT: She the People on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson SCOTUS Confirmation

SAN FRANCISCOShe the People Founder and President Aimee Allison released the following statement on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court of the United States:

“Today is a remarkable day in the history of the United States. We are incredibly proud of newly confirmed Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who won bipartisan support despite hostile and confrontational questioning by Republican senators. We celebrate Supreme Court Justice Jackson on behalf of Black women, women of color, and all Americans. She the People congratulates Justice Jackson on this historic accomplishment, an incredible hard-earned and well-deserved achievement in her already illustrious career.

“Today’s confirmation lifts the spirit of so many of us that see ourselves in Justice Jackson. Her grace, qualifications, integrity and wisdom is a tremendous model for the next generation, those who can fulfill the promise of a strong multiracial democracy.

“Let’s not overlook that with this confirmation, for the first time in our history, white men are not the majority on the Supreme Court after more than two centuries. Though the court still leans conservative, the perspectives on the bench will better reflect the America in which we live. Justice Jackson’s addition will only strengthen the Court’s ability to review and issue decisions with more careful consideration of their impact on all Americans. What’s more, the voices of dissent in argument will matter as challenges to protections for our most basic rights continue.”
